Are we going to trip over this?

SuperStrength HTP™ gives the material the elasticity needed to stretch slightly under a strain, enabling users to pull tight, making laser straight lines while minimizing and virtually eliminating any potential tripping issues. This "Give & Go" design allows the material to move and go with the play upon contact, and then popping back into place when released.

What are they made out of?

Our grids are NOT made from webbing (strap).  Webbing is thick and bulky, and gets nasty overtime, especially if it gets wet.

Our lines are made from SuperStrength HTP™ (High Tenacity Polymers), which is a thin, lightweight high tech fabric that is strong, durable, weatherproof  and compact.  It is over 80% thinner than webbing.

HTP gives the material elasticity allowing it to stretch slightly under a strain, enabling users to pull tight, making laser straight lines issues.  It is woven for added strength and can last for years.

The thin profile of SSHTP allows us to put over 1100' of material on a handheld reel while weighing less than 6 lbs.  Our grids only weigh 2-5 lbs and are easily transported and stored on an included reel or wrap.

How are they anchored to the ground?

We use steel blunt-end safety anchors on the corners and the ends of any lines and wickets that straddle the lines elsewhere.

What about interior lines?

Interior lines such as goal lines, center lines, etc. are optional. A different anchoring system is used for interior lines to make sure they stay outside the field of play and out of the way. Tall grass can pose issues. Generally, the benefits of defined lines outweigh any potential problems. Users instinctively adapt very quickly and intuitively use the system without issue.

How do interior field lines attach to the perimeter lines?

Interior lines such as goal lines or midfield lines are not attached to the perimeter but are applied and anchored independent of the perimeter.  This allows you to move or place the interior lines as you see fit.

What holds the lines in place?

For grass/dirt surfaces, we've designed safety anchors with a curved end that is inserted completely into the ground, leaving very little exposed and insuring a safe field of play. The corners and ends of our fields have a ring that the safety anchors are inserted thourgh and hold in the corner or end in place.  All fields and lines come with this type of anchoring system unless the field is defined on the website as a beach field.

For turf, gym floor, concrete, or other hard surfaces, we offer two optional weighted anchoring systems:

1) Sandbags with a strap that latch to the field corner or end rings. Sand is placed in the sandbags to add weight, tightly sealed and then attached to the field rings to provide the appropriate weighted anchoring system.

2) Deluxe bungee anchors can be paired with your own form of weight to hold down the corners and interior lines of your field.  This allows you to hold the corners and end rings in place without having to insert anything into the surface itself. Lifting weights are commonly used by Port-A-Field customers utilizing deluxe bungee anchors.

For beach sand surfaces, we offer beach anchors.  Depending on the density of the sand, beach anchors hold the corners in place by inserting deep into the sand.  Using a weighted method like sandbags or deluxe bungee anchors is an option as well if the sand is not dense enough to securely hold the beach anchors in place.

Beach anchors come with any field defined as a beach field on the website.  If you order a field not defined as a beach field on the website, beach anchors must be purchased separately.

What are wickets?

Wickets, also known as wind wickets, are steel landscaping pins that are used to further hold the lines in place over long spans between the corner anchors. They are particularly useful for low spots on your playing area or in windy conditions. The legs of their U-shaped design are inserted on either side of the field line, straddling the material. This allows the material to slide to and fro through the wicket, contributing to the "Give & Go" design that allows the material to move.

How long does it take to setup a field?

Fields generally take 5-15 minutes to set-up and retrieve, depending on the field type and size. Small fields, like volleyball courts and small soccer fields only take a few minutes. Setup time decreases as the user becomes more familiar with the setup process.

Can these fields be used on turf or gym floors?

Fields constructed for turf or any hard surfaces in general that do not allow for inserting anchors or wickets into the ground utilize a weighted anchoring system. We offer two weighted anchoring systems on our system to best fit your need:

1) Sandbags with a strap that latch to the field corner or end rings. Sand is placed in the sandbags to add weight, tightly sealed and then attached to the field rings to provide the appropriate weighted anchoring system.

2) Deluxe bungee anchors can be paired with your own form of weight to hold down the corners of the perimeter your field. This allows you to hold the corners and end rings in place without having to insert anything into the surface itself. Lifting weights are commonly used by Port-A-Field customers utilizing deluxe bungee anchors.

It should be noted that fields placed on a hard surface like turf and gym floors will not perform as well as fields placed on grass or dirt surfaces.  With the inability to insert wickets into the ground along the longer stretches of the field, the lines are more likely to move during the course of play.  We recommend only using perimeter lines on hard surfaces and not using interior lines such as midfield lines, penalty boxes, or goal lines.

What is the difference in the types of flag football fields?

  • Standard flag football fields and NIRSA flag football fields are the exact same fields but since people refer to these fields differently, a separate category was created for both. NIRSA is for collegiate intramural fields and Standard is non-collegiate fields but markings and dimensions are the same for both.
  • USFTL flag football fields are labeled at the 5 yard lines and mid-field. Teams have three downs to cross mid field and 3 more downs to score.
  • NFL Flag-style fields are labeled at the 5 yard lines and 5 yards each side of mid-field, creating "no run" zones. Play is dead at these points, forcing teams to pass for a first down and to score.
